Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie Through the Astrological Lens

Introduction

With Venus preparing to turn retrograde this fall, relationships, values and the ties that bind us come up for review. Moving from Scorpio back into Libra, Venus invites us to look beneath the surface of our relationships, revisiting questions of love, trust, intimacy, balance, shared resources and what we truly value. It is an especially fitting time to revisit a relationship that has fascinated the public for more than two decades.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s relationship offers a fascinating astrological case study of attraction, partnership, transformation and the complicated ties that can remain long after a relationship itself has ended.

Brad and Angelina’s journey began in scandal, with an affair during the filming of Mr and Mrs Smith, while Brad was still married to Jennifer Aniston. In January of 2005 when Jennifer and Brad announced their split, Brad and Angelina became inseparable. They were married in August of 2014 but by 2016 the cracks were beginning to show in the relationship. Brad and Marion Cotillard were filming the wartime romance Allied in France during 2015, and near the time of the movie’s release in 2016 rumours began to circulate about an affair blossoming between the two stars, although it is unknown if this is true or a publicity stunt driven by the studio. Before delving into Brad and Angelina’s relationship itself, let’s get to know the players:

The Sun in Sag in the 1st house indicates a need to be seen, a desire to be recognized. Foreign travel exposure to new ideas and cultures help create a citizen of the world. Ruled by Jupiter in the 4th, this Sun finds brings a charm and comfort with them, making everyone feel at home.

The Moon in Capricorn in the 1st house may keep emotions in check, being patient, playing cards close to the chest. Interested and interesting, but not revealing too much. Ruled by Saturn in the 2nd house, personal values and sense of self worth contribute to identity.

The Ascendant, also ruled by Jupiter in the 4th, indicates an optimistic personality, full of opinions, not necessarily practical ones though. Jupiter is square the nodal axis, providing both a desire and a resistance to growth and personal evolution.

Brad on the surface appears to be an easy-going, a laid back affable sort. He can be very charming and is used to attention and is good humoured enough to be interesting. He is drawn to intellectually stimulating people.

With Mars trining both Uranus and Pluto, there is a streak of unpredictability around him; this could manifest as destructive behaviour, or a need to create chaos in order to precipitate change. Prior to the Angelina years, Brad was already a star, but he wasn’t taken very seriously. Whenever he branched out from blockbuster movies to do independent films he began to attract a different audience.

Black Moon Lilith is often where we operate impulsively without restraint. Somewhat akin to Venus Bl. Moon Lilith incorporates the more provocative approach to intimacy and relationships.

Brad’s Bl. Moon Lilith is in the 12th house, conjunct the ascendant. This also could indicate a pattern of destructive behaviour followed by reflection, transformation and spiritual growth. The 12th house influence could also point to forms and methods of escape.

When he first met Angelina she was starting her to reinvent herself, getting more and more involved in humanitarian causes, and Brad was also beginning to get more worldly; expanding his influence by actively encouraging people to vote in the 2004 election.

I can imagine that with Brad’s Moon/Venus connection he is used to people being smitten with him; with Angie’s similar Moon/Mars conjunction, he might have been equally captivated.

He would be drawn to the Arian dynamic of action and freedom. With Saturn in Aquarius, his only Air sign, he would have been drawn to fulfilling a higher purpose.

With the Sun in Gemini in the 11th, Angelina shines on the global stage. Gemini is the social butterfly, the lighthearted communicator; the Sun charms and is comfortable when on display. The Sun in the 11th however does indicate a desire to have a cause, to represent something bigger than herself.

The Moon is sextile the Sun from the 9th house, suggesting a need for freedom, or escape. This placement could also be a representation of foreign travel, exposure to different cultures. The Moon in Aries is the pioneer, breaking new ground, leading the way.

With Mercury in a loose conjunction to the Sun in the 11th, and not particularly well aspected to anything else in the chart, Angelina can express difficult ideas but get her point across by masking difficult truths with a lighthearted approach.

Angelina grew up in the rarified air of Hollywood. From an early age she would have been familiar with the spotlight and a public persona/vs a private life. She is protective of that private life though and may have often struggled with the demands of the public one. The dynamic of the chart pattern indicates growth and development, both personal and transpersonal are important.

Angelina needs not only to have her voice heard, she wants to bring others around to her point of view. She is charming and quick witted, a good communicator and she is persuasive.The Uranus/Chiron opposition in the 4th and 10th houses may reflect difficulty around early foundations and the experience of family relationships.

It is interesting to note that Angelina’s Bl. Moon Lilith is squaring the Sun/Neptune opposition, making her very magnetic and able to draw people in.

When she met Brad, they were both superstars, both beginning to feel out a higher purpose. I think Angelina may have trusted Brad; he had nothing to gain from her, being more famous than she was, and generally more well-liked than she was. I think she realized his Earth energy could ground her, and improve her image.

Synastry

Brad has many configurations and aspect sets in his natal chart , a Water Trine, the Sun squaring both angles. A conjunction between Pluto and Uranus.

Each of these configuration is triggered or supported by a connection to Angelina’s chart.

• Brad’s Chiron/Uranus opposition is squared by Angie’s Sun Neptune opposition creating a mutable Grand Cross.

• Angie’s Black Moon Lilith is conjunct Brad’s Chiron and opposing the Pluto/Uranus conjunction.

• Angelina’s Mercury in the 7th house is opposing the Asc, as is Juno in the 6th.

  
  

If the focus of Brad’s life has been self expression in the 1st quadrant, through Angie’s influence it now becomes self expansion in the 2nd quadrant. This relationship allows Brad to grow beyond himself, towards a higher purpose, although the Grand Cross limits his ability to break free. He may have found himself trapped into servitude.

Angelina has multiple squares in her chart. Sun/Neptune squared by Black Moon Lilith, MC/ASC squared by Saturn, Chiron/Uranus squared by Venus.

Each of these T-squares has an “empty leg” completed by Brad’s chart:

• Brad’s Uranus opposed Angelina’s Black Moon Lilith

• Brad’s Mercury opposing Angelina’s Saturn

• Brad’s Venus/Moon conjunction opposing Angelina’s Venus
  

The Sun/Neptune opposition in Angelina’s chart is also creating the same mutable Grand Cross. From Angelina’s chart it occupies the 5/11 axis which can indicate how she gives and receives love in a relationship, and the 2/8 axis of how she merges her identity with another, without losing herself in the process.

Brad’s ASC and Sun in Angelina’s 5th house are a big influence in clearing away some of her Neptunian fog, which must have made her feel much stronger and more capable.

Angelina’s focus is a desire for self transcendence, with Brad’s influence her focus becomes self expression, a more grounded approach to a similar theme.

Notes on the Dynamic of the Two

Brad may have been looking for a higher purpose and found the promise of that through his relationship with Angelina. They were instantly attracted to each other. Angelina’s quick wit and impassioned speeches must have influenced Brad greatly and gave him a cause to rally around. Angelina was already finding her place in the world, I think the exposure to the plight of the 3rd world and the subsequent international adoptions were the early steps on her humanitarian path. Saving the world one child at a time is not sustainable.

Their relationship captivated the world, they were both powerful figures in Hollywood, he the jovial handsome star, and she the mysterious other woman. Mythologically, they remind me of Brad as Percival, the hapless hero in search of the Holy Grail, and Angelina, Morgana the Fey, the embodiment of feminine power on a mission. Their coming together seems inevitable. Brad, nearer to the end of the relationship, may have sunk back into destructive behaviour, continuing his pattern of creating crisis from which to rise transformed and renewed. Angelina, once she discovered her true passion she would be unstoppable and have little patience for Brad’s struggles.

Brad is looking for personal salvation and Angelina ultimately finds her path through global salvation.

The Composite Chart

The Composite, or Mid-point chart is a derived chart, using the natal charts of both people and creating a chart comprised of the mid-points of all the elements of the chart.

While at first glance, the house placement is similar to Angelina’s, (her ASC is now the MC), the internal aspects resemble Brad’s chart. For example his Uranus/Pluto conjunction is reflected in the composite chart. The stellium from the 2nd house of values and personal beliefs, moves to the 4th house, the home he creates.

Uranus conjunct the Ascendant speaks to the sudden start to this relationship, and perhaps foretells the sudden end.

Jupiter in the 7th house adds an easy come easy go, larger than life atmosphere to the relationship and each partner does require a certain amount of freedom. This is a very comfortable and beneficial relationship for them both initially. Resentments may flare up suddenly though, if either partner does not feel the freedom is not shared equally.

We have the familiar see-saw pattern to the chart, now each side of the see-saw straddling the 1/7 axis, this relationship is beneficial to Angelina’s cause in the humanitarian realm and Brad’s desire to shake off the ennui and do valuable work. Angelina can motivate Brad, he can take up her cause, and give her the tools to make her vision a reality.

The Yod with Saturn and the Moon both quincunx Uranus shows how the relationship moved from the 5th house of romance to the commitment of the 7th house. Fraught with twists and turns this relationship seems to provide opportunities for personal growth and healing from past trauma.

Impossible to ignore

There are four key oppositions in the composite chart, all of them involving the 6/12: the Sun/Pluto, Uranus/Mercury, Uranus/Chiron and finally the nodal axis.

With the Pluto/Sun opposition across the 6/12 houses, we see the brightest light of the chart overshadowed by the dark. Uranus/Mercury across the 1/7 relationship axis describes the sudden irresistible start to the relationship and the sudden ending as well. The generational Uranus/Chiron opposition is in Aries and Libra echoing Angelina’s chart. This couple reflects the themes of that particular phase of the opposition, breaking away from traditional norms, forging a new social paradigm and unconventional family life.

Composite Summary

The generational Uranus /Chiron opposition in the composite is in Libra and Aries as it is Angelina’s chart. The couple echoes her desire for peace and freedom that her generation is known for. The breaking away from traditional norms, pioneering new social paradigms, even unconventional parenting can be associated with this manifestation of the opposition. Straddling the 1/7 axis as well, the relationship itself could be unconventional.

The nodal axis in the 6/12 reveals that the balance between physical health and mental health could be somewhat tenuous. Incredible highs when fulfilling our spiritual growth and lows when we are dealing with the day to day of our physical world. There is a Yod here too, as in Brad’s chart, with the Moon in Pisces sextiling Saturn in Taurus in the 8th, both inconjunct Uranus and the ASC in Libra. The focus of this Yod is the compromise between creative expression and the managing of shared resources to become, in Angelina’s case, irrevocably associated with her cause. Brad doesn’t seem to get much out of this, but he is used to compromise.

In addition we have the Pluto/Sun opposition conjunct the Nodal Axis as well, the brightest and the darkest planets tied to the nodes.

Davison Chart

The Davison chart is based on the midpoints of the time of birth and the geographical centre of the two birth locations. It is a chart that can exist, and often adds depth to the analysis of a relationship.

Immediately, the Jupiter Chiron opposition, squaring the MC places their spiritual journey in the public forum. Mercury is conjunct Jupiter here and is reflective of Angelina’s presence as a UN ambassador for the plight of women and children in the 3rd world. Jupiter in the 1st house is conjunct the Asc and Squares the MC.

Uranus and the Moon are also both quincunx Chiron forming a Yod with Chiron as the apex planet. Uranus brings a streak of genius, but also brings instability and impulsive action. All of this is operating under the radar with the 11th house Moon in Virgo presenting a calm and organized facade. Harnessing that energy could be exhausting for both of them.

Neptune, the north node and Vesta are in Water trines in the houses of work, indicating that this is not an acting family anymore this is a couple on a mission, promoting their ideals and working towards a common goal.

With Bl. Moon Lilith in conjunction to the MC and squaring the Asc, the magnetism of this couple is still front and centre.

Impossible to Ignore

The emphasis on the 4th quadrant in the Davison chart indicates the transformative nature of their relationship. The attraction between the two was impossible to ignore, although most of the connections are between the outer planets, between the personal planets there are few connections. Venus is sextile Mercury, while Mars is square the Sun. Other than that, there is not much between the two except for the intense attraction and the shared goal….

Davison Summary

The Davison chart confirms the public mission we see in the Composite chart and the effort required to maintain it. Brad is the grounding force behind Angelina, he has provided both credibility and a positive direction for her humanitarian efforts. She in turn, shook him out of his routine, and gave him a cause and a purpose. In addition to this, the initial reaction to each other was instant, and felt by both. Brad understood Angelina and recognized her painful relationship with her past, while she recognized that he could help ground her and make her plans come to life. As the relationship developed, I believe that Brad fell into childhood patterns. As more children came along, he may have increasingly occupied the role of the authoritative parent, keeper of the home structure. In time he possibly began to resent this, while Angelina may have felt that he was parenting her as well, clipping her wings.

The Straw and the Camel’s Back

Brad, Angelina and the children were on their way back to LA from France on September 14th, 2016, apparently a united front. By the time they had landed, a separate car had been arranged to whisk Angelina and the children to an undisclosed location. Over the next few days leaks revealed a much darker reason for apparent split; an altercation between Brad and Angelina may have involved the older children as well. Angelina filed for divorce on September 19th, and lists the date of the separation as September 15th.

At the time, the public knew relatively little about what had happened aboard the aircraft. Subsequent FBI documents and court filings brought more detailed allegations into public view. Angelina has alleged that Brad was physically and verbally abusive towards her and the children during the flight. Brad has disputed these allegations of abuse. The FBI reviewed the incident in 2016, and no criminal charges were filed.

The following Quad-wheels illustrate the effects of that day on each of them.

Brad

With the focus on the 1st Quadrant and specifically the 3/9th axis, in addition to the aspects formed Saturn is a big player in his relationship on this day. Natal Saturn in Aquarius, explains his attraction to Angelina. Here at this particular time, SArc Saturn reveals itself, squaring the nodal axis, the mythical devourer of his children. SArc Neptune conjunct natal Mars, could indicate a loss of control over his aggression. What became public after the separation is that there was an incident involving Brad and members of the family aboard a private aircraft .Allegedly there was an altercation and one of the older children intervened. Prog. Sun conjunct natal Saturn and SArc Neptune are reflective of this transformation; Saturn comes out from behind the mirror.

In addition, Brad is experiencing his Pluto trine, and although this is often a time when personal empowerment is possible, there can be suspicion and behind the scenes manipulation if the energy is negatively expressed . TR Uranus square natal Moon can destabilize emotional regulation as well, leading to outbursts of emotion. And let’s not forget how TR Mars conjunct the Asc can also heighten emotional response..

Angelina

Angelina’s quad wheel for this date is also dramatic. Here, we can see a choice centred on home and children, with the focus on the 4th and 5th houses. TR Saturn brings clarity to Prog Neptune in the 5th house, Angelina sees what she is dealing with, very clearly.

All 5 of Angelina’s personal planets are aspected in this chart, mostly by transit.

There is a sextile with natal Sun, natal Moon both quincunx TR Juno creating a Yod. The apex planet in a Yod often reflects the goal, with a sense that something must be sacrificed. In the 4th house this reflects Angelina’s belief that she must suppress her identity or emotions to achieve the home life she craves.

Natal Venus is the apex of a T-square with Prog Chiron/Natal Uranus opposition, triggering the existing natal square between Venus and Chiron, and because it’s exact now, it reveals the natal promise.

Mercury has several aspects in the quad-wheel. TR Mars is opposing natal Mercury, while TR Pallas trines, and SArc Ceres conjuncts. These aspects highlight Angelina’s drive and ability to strategize and mentally prepare for the perceived battle for the family.

Notes on the Quad-Wheels

Brad may have transferred some of his own aspirations and helped create an environment in which Angelina could pursue her goals. As the balance between them shifted, older patterns may have emerged; they both got what they needed from the relationship, although they may not recognize that. His mantra could be “from chaos order”, Angelina’s could be “heal yourself, heal the world”.

This relationship changed Brad’s life completely, giving him a purpose far beyond the desire to be a successful actor. Angelina gave him a cause, shaking him up and releasing all the energy of his chart by providing the much needed Fire and Air. Angelina appears to have been just as smitten by Brad. He provided grounding and gave her often erratic impulses a direction and tenacity to succeed. Brad also allowed her to recognize and deal with some of her early trauma, by really seeing her, perhaps it was the first time that anyone had.

Brad needed Angelina to spur him into action, but ultimately her goals were never really his. His goal is self-expansion, to become himself, while Angelina’s goal is self-transcendence, to become more than herself.

Now, nearly ten years after the separation, the relationship's legal aftermath continues. The divorce was settled in December 2024, but the dispute over Château Miraval remains unresolved. Angelina sold her 50% interest in the winery business in 2021, and Brad sued in February 2022, alleging that the sale violated an agreement requiring mutual consent. Jolie disputes that such an agreement existed.

The winery litigation has also brought the circumstances surrounding the 2016 flight back into public discussion. Angelina’s lawyers have stated that negotiations collapsed over a proposed nondisclosure agreement that would have restricted discussion of the alleged abuse. This claim is what has allowed details of that fateful flight to be included in the public record. The latest filing  dated July 31 2026, had Brad asking for additional financial records from 2017–2019.

Addendum…

This event has several aspects that affect Brad and Angelina’s charts in meaningful ways. There are trines between TR Pluto and TR Uranus, plus a very powerful opposition of TR Jupiter and TR Pluto.

The TR Pluto and TR Uranus trine also trine Brad’s MC, in the houses of substance, which seems fitting due to financial nature of the litigation. The Jupiter/Pluto opposition is in the 2/8 axis and transforms the trines into a Kite formation, with the Pluto Jupiter opposition acts as a catalyst for the sometimes passive trine. The opposition gives a direction and provides motivation. In Brad’s chart, the opposition is indicative of the focus on values and shared resources, ie: the winery.

TR Neptune is opposite the MC, conjunct the parental axis (4/10) and speaks to another motivation, not only is Brad’s reputation is on the line, his family life is under the spotlight.

In Angelina’s chart TR Uranus and TR Pluto are trining her natal Pluto in the houses of relationship. The Jupiter Pluto opposition is in the 1/7 axis, indicating that Angelina’s focus is on her identity within the relationship.The dynamic of the trine reflects a desire to promote her own agenda.

The 2nd Kite formation involves the opposition of TR Neptune opposing natal Pluto. This triggers the natal Mars/Pluto opposition, bringing the focus to what she knows, believes, and is willing to fight for.

Finances may be what’s on the table from the legal perspective, but the family and the children are what she is protecting. Angelina’s power lies with the family. TR Saturn moves over her natal Moon adding to her tenacity.

Conclusion

Astrology cannot tell us exactly what happened during that flight or resolve the conflicting accounts of what happened. What astrology can do is illustrate the themes of a relationship that continue to have repercussions long after the marriage has dissolved.

In this relationship and particularly this event, both parties have a public motivation and a deeper more personal one. Smoke and mirrors as they say. The legal wrangling over the sale of the winery is the smoke, and the power struggle to control the narrative and mask the emotional minefield of the relationship is the mirror…
